‘J.H.Hunsdon of Chelmsford.’

This weeks’ Antique is a sought after, 18th Century 8-Day Longcase Clock by the Exquisite Clockmaker, ‘J.H.Hunsdon of Chelmsford.’

J H HUNSDON of CHELMSFORD c.1790

This is a very nice example of an 8-day George III japanned clock with chinoiseries.

It has a silvered dial with an engraved STRIKE/SILENT ring to the arch, and a working seconds ring and date aperture.

The movement is in good clean condition and keeps excellent time. It strikes to the hour on a bell.

The hood is decorated and has a swept cavetto pediment supported on decorated pilasters.

The trunk is in good, solid condition and has a breakarched and moulded door with chinoiseries. The door has a working lock and key.

The japanned paintwork is in remarkably good condition. There is evidence of minor restoration, which is to be expected.
