This is a most attractive, good quality brass-faced 8-day clock, with a Strike/Silent feature. The solid mahogany case has some intricate carving - something Harding was noted for.
The brass face, with its matted centre, has a silvered chapter ring, seconds ring and strike/silent ring. It has a working seconds dial and date aperture.
The movement is in good, clean condition and strikes to the hour on a bell. It has been serviced.
The hood has an arched blindfret, and a pillared hood with brass spheres. The sides have open fretwork. There are three brass finials depicting eagles.
The trunk has a lovely patina. There is delicate carving to the door edges, the base and the plinth. The trunk is in excellent condition. The trunk door has a working lock and key.
John Harding was an 18th-century clockmaker from Abingdon, known for his craftsmanship in creating longcase clocks. These clocks are highly valued by collectors and often feature intricate designs and reliable movements.
