Lofthouse Antiques Collection › Grandfather Clock by 'John Harding of Abingdon,' 8-Day. (SOLD)

Grandfather Clock by 'John Harding of Abingdon,' 8-Day. (SOLD)

£1,495.00

John Harding of Abingdon c.1780

This is a most attractive, good quality brass-faced 8-day clock, with a Strike/Silent feature. The solid mahogany case has some intricate carving - something Harding was noted for.

The brass face, with its matted centre, has a silvered chapter ring, seconds ring and strike/silent ring. It has a working seconds dial and date aperture.

The movement is in good, clean condition and strikes to the hour on a bell. It has been serviced.

The hood has an arched blindfret, and a pillared hood with brass spheres. The sides have open fretwork. There are three brass finials depicting eagles.

The trunk has a lovely patina. There is delicate carving to the door edges, the base and the plinth. The trunk is in excellent condition. The trunk door has a working lock and key.

John Harding was an 18th-century clockmaker from Abingdon, known for his craftsmanship in creating longcase clocks. These clocks are highly valued by collectors and often feature intricate designs and reliable movements.

H = 98.5” (80” if centre finial removed)  W = 20.5”  D = 10”
